Pictures

These pictures are from my overland ferry and train trip from Victoria to Ottawa in early January, 2005. I took the ferry over to Vancouver, and then the train from Vancouver to Ottawa: four days, slower than the 'plane but faster than by car. I've taken the train and driven my car across this country quite a few times but never before in winter.

I don't think I'll ever try the winter trip by car, but I'll be doing it by train again, if only for the food. Amongst other things, the VIA Rail trip is a major food-fest, every meal a treat. The sleeping berths are amazingly comfortable.

This final picture is a link to an AVI movie -- click on it to watch the movie (it's 16MB, so it may take a while to download if you're dial-up). Just before getting to Winnipeg, we met another train heading in the same direction (on a different track).
